FROM THE HUB

Dear Cogs, This week has been rather full of incidents, hasn’t it? Those of you who have never beforo felt an earthquake, I think must have an idea now, of the uncanny feelings they bring with them. And the havoc they play! We scarcely realise what those poor people have suffered, and indeed, arc stilt suffering. Let us then make the most of our homes and our home life. The show pcojiic have had the usual show weather. Why must it rain always when we have these most important things taking place? Wc have several more new Cogs to welcome this week, they arc: Betty Garlick, Doris McGill, Bettiua McLennan, Freda Alvc, Rhona Klink, Pkvllis Cordery, C. .T. Croat!, Alfred Cocks. Stanley Cocks, and Dulcic Scarell. Little Phyllis Cordery wrote a sweet little note, and she says she had a most wonderful day in Wellington. Unfortunately she wrote on both sides of the paper, which is a frightful thing to do, because we can never use it, when that is done. But Phyllis says that she and her sister spent a great deal of their day going up the escalator at the D.I.C. until at last one of the attendants asked them if they were sure-they wouldn’t be ill, so they took the hint and sought something different. The Ivelburn tram proved a happy idea. I hope .Sam that your cold is better.

Such a lot of Cogs were disappointed that they did not sec mo at the show, poor darlings. I didn’t go. I was far too busy. Gwendoline asks for a non-dc-plume. How would “Tui” do? And would all Cogs please sign their full name as well as the nom-dc-phimc. I have a good memory but not such a good one that I can memorise the hundreds of pen names that I give.

Moss Rose, was delighted to sec her name in last week’s paper. I am very glad you all like the paintiug competitions, they arc really a change, and it teaches children to harmonise colour schemes and gives them an idea of home decorations. Some of the results sent were rather crude, but the majority of them were splendid. I was speaking to a lady this morning, w-lio has just come back from a trip to America. I am going to hear a'l about her trip soon and I will tell you if she met any children, and what she thought of them in America. I am sorry to say a wrong letter was put in one of the counties in the .Skilltest competition, but most of the children delved into their atlas, and put the right word in.

Good-bye dears. Look elsewhere for prize results. Thank you ever so much all Cogs who have scut in money for the Relief Fund, it is mounting up and it is such good cause. X "nek's competition will be five skill . "or the best letter on “Home Life. Let me know your idea of an ideal home, and no letter must bo too long, neither must it be too short, Good-bvc. THE HUB.
