Municipal By-Election

(To the Editor.) Sir, —On ‘Wednesday the ratepayers end householders will have the opportunity of electing a councillor to replace Mr.'Milverton, who has seen iit to resign and cause a by-election. Despite protestations of wasteful expenditure consistently uttered throughout his service as a councillor the ratepayers will now have to foot, the bill for at least £IOO, the cost of taking the poll. The lesson to be learnt from this is to be more careful in future wheu voting time comes round. On AVednesduy next quite a number of very estimable gentlemen will be seeking the votes of the electors, but (here is one, who though not very well known has qualifications that fit him for the position of councillor. I refer lo Mr. J. McLeod. He is a man of independent means and leisure, of integrity and honesty, who has on two occasions sought eduction and polled well. On this occasion his nomination paper has been signed by Mesdames Nathan, Palmer and Trask and Messrs J. A. Nash M..P., J. J’. Innes, H. L. Gibbous, I’. iS. Larcomb, B. J. Jacobs, A. M. Ongley, and councillor Mansford and others, and I think that those people surely guarantee that ho is the right man for the position of councillor. .It. only remains for the, electors oil Wednesday to endorse this good opinion by returning Mr. J. McLeod at the top of the poll.—l am, etc., “COMMON SLN.Si:.’’
