The popularity of the weekly euchre tourney conducted by the committee of the Shannon branch of the N.Z. Labour parly continues to increase. A. K. llyde, 51b box of tea; Air. C. Ellery, 251 b. bag of Hour; Air. A. Mason, Hb. of tea. -Messrs C. Johnson and G. Erickson were the only players to qualify lo compele for the watch. The dance at. the Parish hull on Friday evening in aid of funds for the Venerable Bede's church proved an unqualified success. The hall was decor-

ated with blue und white streamers and autumn leaves. The music was in the capable hands, of Airs- Purcell (piano) and Air .Purcell (violin) and their lime was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The duties of AI.C. were divided by Air. P. Cole and -Mr. H. G. Leng-YVard, who Jtofih contrived lo keep things going at a good pace. Items were given between the dances by Aliss AL Inglcy and Aliss I. Thompson (instrumental duels), Aliss Gamp (recitations), Aliss Joyce Aicnvood (recitations), Aliss Aiinescley (sailors’ hernpipe and Highland fling), Air. Morgan (humorous storiesj and Air. H. G. Leng-Ward songs). Supper was again provided by the ladies. At llie supper interval HU people were present in the hall, and over a JOO were in attendance during the evening. During the evening a balloon dance was held, which was won by -Miss G. Christensen and Mr. C. Lankshear. The next dance of this sories will be held on June 7, when fresh items and novelties will be introduced. The committee for these dances arc open to receive any - suggestions and would like to point, out that the dances start sharp at 8 o’clock. On Friday evening, the male section was la-te in arriving and missed a lot of fun. If they arc late next time, they will miss a good deal more. The committee also wishes to thank all those ladies who provided the supper ,and others who helped to make the evening a success.
