A good word for tobacco 1 A famous London medical specialist (according to a recent cable), has just expressed tiio opinion that tobacco is “ a very useful sedative. It rests tbe brain and prevents the human machino from overworking.’ ’ The same authority approves of smoking for women. Ho thinks it is the best fashion that has been introduced for them “because it steadies the nerves.” Every smoker knows that. But much depends on tho quality of tho tobacco. Brands full of nicotine certainly won’t “rest the nerves,” and they may affect the heart. Unfortunately, most of the imported tobaccos contain an excess of nicotine, and in that respect they differ materially from our New Zealand brands, which being comparatively free from nicotine may be smoked every day and all day long and no harm done. These tobaccos owe their delightful fragrance and delicious aroma largoly to the fact that the leaf is toasted—quite a novel idea. You can get them of any strength —“Riverhead Gold” (mild), “Navy Cut” (medium), so is “Cavendish” and ‘ ‘ Cut Plug No, IQ ” is full strength*
