POTENTIAL WEALTH IN THE BEAD SEA TO BE EXPLOITED

Valued Concession MENACE TO GERMAN MONOPOLY OF POTASH EXPERTS DIFFER. (British Official Wireless.) Received Sunday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, May 25. Mr. Moses Novomeysky, who with Major Tullock was awarded yesterday the concession for the extraction ol' salts from the Dead Sea, left Londou to-day for Palestine. They will remain by the Dead Sea for a few weeks but will return to London in July to form a company. It is possible that Lord Lytton, who has already consented to become chairman of the company, will also go out to Palestine this summer. A correspondent of the Al'anchcster Guardian, in discussing the possibilities of the concession, says seientists are agreed upon the enormous potential wealth of the minerals lying in the Dead Sea but opinions differ upon the possibility of putting these minerals on an extensive scale on the world market. Some experts state it is perfectly feasible to laud potash from the Dead Sea in ISTew York at -a price onefourth of that of the potash of Germany, which at the present time largely controls the world’s markets but other experts, such as Lord Alclchctt, are inclined to doubt that. Air. Novomeysky and Alajor Tulloch are resolved to begin on a modest scale, so that in the early years the German potash monopoly will have littlo to fear. An attempt will bo made to found new markets in Palestine, Syria, Egypt and Iraq and other countries bordering the Eastern Mcditerranean. If things develop as the concessionaires hope, however, a railway may bo constructed to Akaba and ro a rou to may be found to the agricultural east, which will avoid the heavy dues of the Suez canal.
