The latter received him with charming affability. He went into the house, whereupon Jacques produced a revolver and said “You aro going to buy this house for 130,000 francs.” He forced Martelly to sign a cheque, then locked him in a cupboard while Jacques cashed it at the bank beforo disappearing.
