Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, May 24. In the match between South Africa 'and Gloucester, South Africa in the second innings made J 332 (Morkel 43; Parker . 5 for 56). Gloucester in the second innings scored 129 for 4 (Hammond 63, Dacre 36). Gloucester won by six wickets. BOWLER COMPLAINS OF SHIRT FRONT WICKET. Australian Press Association. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, May 23. The first serious incident in the Campaign against the "shirt front" wickets occurred at Lords. Strangely enough, the complaint was made by Gilbert, the Worcestershire bowler, who alleged that the wicket was underprepared. Making it clear that he was acting on his own initiative, and without consulting the captain, Gilbert stated that he understood the groundsmen had been instructed that the wickets should not be over-prepared. Judging from the experience yesterday the wicket was unfair, in the sense that an undue advantage was given to the winners of the toss. The wicket was crumbling at four o’clock on the first day.' Point was given to Gilbert’s complaint by the faot that before tea his average against Middlesex was none for 55, and after tea he skittled five for 38. Ho could have preened his feathers instead of protesting. It is pointed out that owing to the severe winter the wickets on most of the grounds are relatively' devoid of grass. The ball capers and keeps lower than usual.
