SLOW FUSE CAUSE OF TWO ACCIDENTS

YOUTH INJURED AT INQUEST NEXT DAY
BLASTING OF A LOG. Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, Alay 24. William Bayne, a farmer, aged 42, a married man with eight children, the eldest of whom is 16, was killed yesterday afternoon while blasting a log on his farm at Raketapauma, 20 miles from Taihape. The charge did not at first explode, Bayne went back to 'inspect the log when an explosion occurred. He was killed instantly and frightfully mutilated. There was a similar accident to-day with the same log. Tho District Coroner, ATr. J. P. Aldridge, Alayor of Taihape, went to hold an inquest. The log was inspected and another charge was found which a bystander Patrick McCann ,junr., of Beketapauma offered to explode. He applied and fired the fuse, but there was no explosion.
He went to inspect and leaned over the log. An explosion followed and McCann, was badly injured. The full extent of his injuries is not yet known, but he will probably survive.
