Harry Preston, one, of the best known figures in the boxing world in .England, describes Jack Dempsey, the former heavy-weight champion of the world, as “a tall young giant, with a genial, kindlv nature.” In the ring, however, he changes; his fighting spirit dominates, his face becomes sullen and his eyes fierce, aijd the strength and speed of his terrific punches are phenomenal. He was a poor fighter, without confidence, but the right stuff was in him, Jack JCearns developed Dempsey’s fighting qualities and piloted him to the world’s championship. Dempsey is a m'hionaire now. He lives in Los Angeles hh d Is one of the most popular hosts in the film capital. He owns ah hotel and several Rolls-Royces, and has some hundreds of thousands of dollars tucked away in a trust fund. Two iron fists and a fighter’s heart havo won Dempsey a nice packet of the sweets of life.
