ANTICIPATED REALISM SPOILS AIR PAGEANT
Me at Vincennes
MODEL FACTORY TOWN COLLAPSES TOO SOON ’PLANES MILES AWAY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, 11.25 p.m. PARIS, May 23.
A quaint contretemps destroyed t&o versimilitude of an air pageant at Vincennes arranged to stimulate interest in aviation, to which hundreds of thousands of spectators were attracted.
It was announced after a reahstio display by aviators, that they would bomb a factory town, which had been specially constructed. As a fact, no bombs were used.
It was arranged that the aeroplanes were to circle over tho place at a iow altitude, when simultaneously the town should collapse on hinges amid artificial smoke, and the building would thus be available for later performances.
Unfortunately, owing to a misunderstanding between the air and ground staffs, the aeroplanes were miles away when tho town collapsed and tho display ended in general laughter.
