Notes of the Day
During the month of April, 101 cows, .13 oxen, 32 hulls, 40 heifers, 10 ewes. 304 wethers, 40 lambs, 812 pigs and 0 veuk'i's were dealt with at tlie Feilding municipal abattoir, fees amounted to 2178 8s Sd as compared with £173 Js 2d for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of £3 7s od. Mr. John Stalker, who met with the accident on the. Kimboltou road railway crossing last week, is making sa.tisi'sctorv progress, but is rtill receiving medical attention.
Mr. E. Fair, who has been visiting Xew Plymouth, returned to Fcilding last evening.
The Hon- J. G. Cobbe, member for Oroua. advised the Fcilding Borough council in a. lei ter last evening tha t tic would be pleased to further the wishes of the council regarding tho constitution of the Transport board. Fcilding asks for greater local body representation.
The Methodist Church Camp commitlee, has convoyed to the Fcilding Borough council, its thanks for the use of Johnston park for the Easter camp.. Mr. C. E. Taylor, Mayor of Feilding, will represent the Feilding Borough at a conference to be held at Palmerston North to-morrow to consider local bodies loan liabilities in connection with the Manawatu Gorge road. This conference has been called at the instigation of the Pahiatua County council.
lu a letter received at last evening’s •meeting of the Feilding Borough council, Mr. M. A. Eliott, offered 1o _do everything possible towards furthering the interests and representation of the Borough of Feilding. It was resolved to thank Mr. Eliott for his letter.
Mr. T. K. Hay, Borough engineer, who recently returned from annual, leave, has not been able to resume duly, owing to indisposition. The question of improving the drainage facilities at Victoria park, is to bo investigated by the Borough engineer. Tho playing area suffers from the surface water soakage from the hill and efforts arc to be made to relievo the position. At last evening’s meeting of the Feilding Borough council, tho Feilding Hockey association wuis granted the use of Victoria park on the same conditions as last year.
The Fcilding amateurs, His Niece Company, have offered to _ stage a comedy in aid of the Feilding Municipal library. At its mooting last evening, the Feilding Borough council accepted the offer with enthusiasm and tlio opportunity was taken to explain that ,with a view to popularising the institution, a meeting of citizens would bo held next week to elect live members of the library to act as a selection and advisory committee. This follows on the suggestion of the late Mayor, (Mr. E. Fair). Building permits to the number of six. were issued in Feilding last month for work valued at £550.
