£llBO DAMAGES FOR INJURY IN COLLISION
PLAINTIFF LOSES A LEG. SEQUEL TO SMASH IN CHRISTCHURCH STREET. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A motor lorry and motor van collided at tho corner of Alunchestcr street and Oxford terrace on December 7 last year, with tho result that the young man who drove one of the vehicles had a leg amputated. In the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr. Justice Adams and a jury, this man, Victor Alauricc Hooper, claimed damages totalling £IOBO Os 2d from the owners of the other vehicle, the Perfection Ice Cream Company. _ . Hooper was a grocer’s assistant driving his firm’s van. It was alleged that Smith, the driver of the defendant company’s vehicle, failed to keep, a proper lookout, travelled at excessive speed, failed to keep on liis proper side of tho road and failed to keep his lorry under proper control. The defence was a denial of negligence and an allegation of contributory negligence by Hooper. r i’he jury awarded Hooper £llBO Gs 2d, with, costs.
