A STIFF HURDLE

T ADY hockey players throughout the Dominion are keen to participate in overseas’ tours, and the decision on Tuesday evening of the Council of the New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association to participate in the Empire tournament which is to be held next year in South Africa, will be welcomed by most players. There is, however, a “fly in the ointment.” The council decided that the tour would not be proceeded with unless the cash required—estimated at £2,000 —is in sight. This will be a big hurdle for lady players and their supporters to overcome, but it is understood that already a move is being made toward raising the amount. The council's scheme is that each of the provincial associations shall be assessed a quota, which they will be asked to raise in any manner they may decide. It has been decided that the team shall consist of 20 players, with a manager and coach, and will be thoroughly representative of the strength of ladies’ hockey in the Dominion.
