GOLF

United Press Association —By Eleetri* Telegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, D. 20 p.m. LONDON, May 16. Atrocious conditions prevailed in tho ladies’ golf championship competition at St. Andrews this morning. A storm suddenly arose with thunder and lightning, terrific rain and huge hailstones. Everyone was drenched to the skin and the greens were sheets of water, yet tho referees in some of the matches insisted on players not seeking shelter, not realising that the continuous play rule applies only to medal and not to match play. The critics forecast that Miss Wethered (England) and Miss Collett (U.S.A.) will be in the final.
