CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL EVOLVING
Five Elected So Far
POSSIBILITY OF LABOUR HAVING MAJORITY OF ONE MILK SUPPLY PACE-ABOUT. Por Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The official count of the first preference votes at the City Council election shows one Labour and four Citizens' candidates with more than tho quota of 1775 and they have been declared elected, as follow: —Sullivan (Labour;, Andrews, Lyons, Beanland, Fleshcr (Citizens' candidates). Eleven seats have still to bo filled and there is a possibility of the Labour and Citizens each securing eight seats. With the Mayor, this would give Labour a majority. It is considered that if the Labour Party secures a majority on the City Council, it is very unlikely that tho proposal for the municipalisation of the milk supply will bo gone on with. Tho attitude of the Labour Party towards tho milk question in future will probably be in the direction of improving the supply, without attempting to embark on a big municipalisation scheme. The chief reason for this change of front is that the Citizens of Christchurch, by their votes last Wednesday', appear to have indicated quite plainly that they do not want municipalisation in any circumstances.
