Those who witnessed the manner in which Kia Ton dealt with Old Boys on the previous Saturday, gathered that the youthful combination would not be capable of bringing off such a surprise victory, especially when the yellows' performance against Palmerston North Old Boys was taken into consideration. In the short space of a week, however, the boys, coached by Jack Stalker, were fitted for the victory which came so easily. Feilding was soundly, beaten by a skilful combination to tho tune of 25 points to ti and if the greens can sustain this form they will bo hard to beat. The teams were: —

Following tho scrum, greens were penalised and M. Eight found the line and in the resultant play, Elliott cost the yellows three points through an infringement, for from the 25 yards line. MacLeod sent the boll over—3—o. The Darragh brothers were responsible for clearing a dangerous drive and when MacLeod misdirected a kick, the yellows made a drive which brought the greens to oiler a vigorous and skilful defence. Clearing through Wells, greens Averc again in full attack and when in a dangerous position, notched further penalty points, MacLeod having no difficulty in sending over a capital kick —6—o. Feilding now shaped a little Letter and SliapSeski (late half for Kia Ton) gave liis backs a chance. 11. Darragh cut. awav with a burst of speed but fell to N. Bramwcll, leaving S. Bramwell to clear. Old Boys retained possession from the line out and once more the defenders infringed for MacLeod to send homo his third penalty kick—<j—o. Time came a moment later. Soon after resuming, Shapicski sent K Darragh away and although lie fell to M. Waldin-’s tackle, yellows gained -oround and in the battle which followed Cuff from a penalty kick, made the scoro g— 3. S. Broniwell turned Folding's next assault, which was led by the Eight brothers and in a flash M. Waldin bad picked up and outstepping the opposition, made a spectacular run to score a try. The crowd roundly applauded his enterprise and dash. MacLeod’s kick produced further apwliiusc —14 —3. In tho exciting pj a y which followed, greens were called back for an infringement but they were soon at it again when MacLeod s penalty kick fell short. Elliott sent the leather well down the held and a stern battle on the line culminated in Cuffi annexing points from a penalty kick —14 —6. . Old Boys fairly flew off the nex„ movement and the crowd let alone the other side, had hardly time to appreciate the swift movement before lawson bad crossed the line. MacLeod converted —19 —6.
