HOUSE BURNED DOWN IN BOUNDARY ROAD
NOTHING SAVED. Shortly before 11 o’clock on Saturday evening, a four-roomed house in Boundary road, occupied by Mr. J. Walton, was razed to the ground by fire. Owing to tho house being situated outside the borough boundary the brigade could obtain no'water and was powerless to check the flames which \yere raging when the engine arrived. All that could be done was to protect tbe next door residence ,occupied by Mr. J. Prentice, and for this purpose the auxiliary pump was brought into commission. The house and all contents were completely destroyed. When the alarm was given, Mr. and Mrs Walton * were absent from their home for the evening. No explanation can be offered as to the origin of tho outbreak. The house was owned by Mr. W. J. Simpson, of Palmerston North and was insured for £325. It is undertood there was insurance on Mr. Walton’s furniture but the amount of tbo risk is not ascertainable.
