MONSTER PETITION TO ABOLISH STAG HUNTING
SIGNED BY . MANY NOTABLES. SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CRUELTY IS DIVIDED. United Press Association—By Electrij Telegraph—Copyright. Received Friday, 7 p.m. LONDON, April 19. All candidates at tho elections will be asked to support a'petition in favour of legislatiou abolishing' stag hunting as a cruel sport. Tho 15,000 signatories include Messrs Bernard Shaw, Arnold Bennett, John Galsworthy, Alfred Noyes, Mrs. Edith Stillwoll, Miss Rebecca West, Miss Maitd Royden, the Bishops of Birmingham and Ripon, the Salvationist General Higgins and the Chief Rabbi, Dr, Hertz. The Labour and Liberal parties aro practically unanimously supporting the petition. In tho meantime, members of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals voted by 3125 to 1142 in favour of a campaign against stag hunting. . ' , . It is expected the decision will lead to resignations from the society, which has many stag hunters among its members .
