Nominations for the Wellington Mayoralty are Messrs G. A. Troup and W. Nash. Thirty-five hr /e been nominated for 15 seats on the council. At Sir A. T. Ngata's request, in order to avoid the risk of illness attendant upon a large gathering of natives, Lady Ngata's funeral will be of a private nature. Four 'planes from Hawera landod at Auckland safely yesterday, shortly aftor noon, with the exception of Captain J. C. Mercer, who had trouble in finding the aerodrome, landing threequarters of an hour later than the others, whose time was one hour and 55 minutes from Hawera.—P.A. In order to provide cheap travel by rail for those who havo been unable to take advantage of the reduced fares during the summer period, the Railway department is providing the concession for ten days early next month. Particulars of the holiday excursion fares are advertised in to-day's issue. The period covors the schools' term vacation. The government recently acquired portion of Mr R. L. Levin’s ‘Westella’ astute at Taonui, on the Main Trunk railway, about 2J miles from Feilding. The area of 830 acres has been subdivided into twelve dairy farms and these are now being opened for selection by ballot. The farms offered comprise first-class dairying land close to railway station, school and dairy factory. Further particulars will bo found in our advertising columns.
