Rongotea
From Our Own Correspondent. gardesTthefts. One evening last week farmers on Jones line and Clay road, Rongotea, received an unprofitable visit from unknown men who helped themselves to their vegetable gardens and got away undetected with three sacks of potatoes and cabbages, beet and pumpkins. One farmer was carefully tending a pumpkin measuring 54 inches for entry in the Winter Show at Palmerston North and was surprised to find the pumpkin gone one morning. Three sacks of potatoes had been dug and left in the paddock over-night and in tho morning there was no sign of them. The matter has been put in the hands of the polico. The other evening the same farmers received another visit when pumpkins comprised tho haul. Those who have good vegetable patches would be advised to gather all the ready vegetables and store them, for the nocturnal visitors seem very daring and may be looking for fresh fields of harvest. Hockey. In the hockey match between Carna von and Rongotea on Wednesday, the former proved the winners 2 goals to one.. Miss R. Dixon and Miss M. McKelvie shot the goals for Carnavon, while Miss I. Baylis scored for the home team.
Personal. Mr and Mrs. W. Davison have returned from Timaru, where they have been staying with relations. The friends of Miss Jane Bennett of Kopane will be sorry to hear that she is seriously ill. The Rongotea Dairy Company’e payout for the month of March is Is 4d per. lb. of butterfat. The euchre prizes at the Social Club on Thursday evening were annexed by Mrs. A. Trenkner and Mr T. Lean, while the consolation went to Miss M. Bower and Mr K. Alp.
