Frontiers
Once tattered sails were lowered off a shore So virgin-new that men considered they Had reached the last frontier:— then found a door Which opened West, Outside of it there lay A wilderness of prairie and of plain. Of mountain range and desert; a lodestone To lure them down the sunset’s golden lane And on into a further far unknown. To-day from out their emprise hold has leapt, Like April on an ancient hough, a race Which true to its inheritance has kept A trysting with adventure, calling space A highway to romance, a vast frontier With stars heyond the stars to pioneer. —Ethel Romig Fuller.
