Seniors journeyed to Foxton to play the Foxton seniors and were defeated by 9 to nil. The Shannon team could only play ten men owing to different troubles in the club. Apparently, there aro too many seniors in Shannon, and as a result, several members have signed on for distant clubs, leaving the local club in an extraordinary position. It is to be hoped that this will be remedied this week, otherwise senior football will not be worth watching. Juniors put up a very creditable per- .' formanco on the local ground, when’ they played a composite team of seniors and juniors from Athletic, Palmerston North, and defeated them by .10 points to 8. Juniors played 14 men until 20 minutes before the finish, and the game was exceptionally good for the comemneement of the season. From the kick-off Athletic started to press, but J. Mabey was prominent in defence. From good -work by Birchall, Shannon’s full-back, Mabey following up well, obtained the ball, and after dodging two of his opponents, took a pot at goal when hemmed in and registered Shannon’s first score. Shortly afterwards from a penalty awarded in Athletic’s territory, N. Holden increased the score to seven points with a well judged kick. Athletic continued to press, but good work by Newman, Ngatuna, Mabey and Tippler carried the ball to touch at the corner of Athletic’s line. There, however, Eobb intercepted a bad pass and ran the length of the field, closely pursued my Newman, to register Athletic’s first score between the posts, the try being converted —Shannon 7, Athletic 5. From the kick-off, Newman made a fine attempt to score, but was collared on the line and the ball returned to neutral territory, when the whistle sounded.

After a much-wanted respite, Athletic, playing downhill, attacked hard, but Mabey again proved the stumbling block and sent the ball back to halfway. Prom a line-out, Putti registered Shannon’s first try, which Mabey failed to convert —Shannon 10, Athletic 5. Athletic again attacked, but a good dribble by the Shannon forwards up the lino took the ball to half-way. The game fluctuated up and down, with Athletics trying to break the defence. They finally ran over on the corner, to score an unconverted try—Shannon 10, Athletic 8. No further scores wore registered when time sounded. Next Saturday sees the commencement of the Cup fixtures, which are as follow: — Senior. Shannon v. Weraroa, at Levin. Foxton v. Wanderers, at Foxton. Hui Mai v. Otaki, at Manukau. Junior. Shannon v. Weraroa, at Shannon. ' Foxton v. Wanderers, at Wci>roa. Hui Mai v. Otaki, at Otaki. Waikanae v. Paraparaumu, at Paraparaumu.
