TAONUI SCHOOL
ANNUAL REPORT OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Taonui school will present the following report at the householders’ meeting on Monday:— We started the year with a credit balance of £22 6s, and received grants from the Education board of £37, our total expenditure being £sl 14s 2d. During the year our tennis courts received- a topdressing of restar. The committee has since granted the use of the courts to the tennis club recently formed in Taonui which has erected the necessary netting fence around the courts.
A portion of the playing ground has been ploughed and put in order ifnd sown in lawn grass by one of the members of the committee, a gift to tho school, and now lends a pleasing sight to what was once an unsightly plot at the rear of the school.
During the year we lost our esteemed nead teacher, Mr. M. R. MeEwan, who has been appointed to a similar position at Milson’s line. The vacancy is now being ably filled by Miss V. Curtis. Several of the children attending the school have received treatment from the Feilding dental clinic. We again joined with Bunnythorpe school in a combined railway excursion to Plimmerton aud a very pleasant day was spent by those who availed themselves of the trip to the seaside. During the summer holidays the interior of the school was repainted, which has had the effect of considerably brightening up the appearance of the old buildings. - Negotiations are now well on their way for the purchase of a new piano. Thanks to the efforts of our head teacher, Miss Curtis, and her able assistant, Miss Wallis, who organised a putting competition recently in Feilding, as a result of which tho funds necessary for the purchase of tho piano were considerably augmented. We arc looking forward to its arrival at an early date.
