The Betting Control Board company has accepted the tenders, “for the present,” of the Lightning Automatic Totalisator company, the British Automatic Totalisator .company, the Graham Amplion . company, and, fourthly, the Bell Punch and Printing company. They will be installed on 12 leading racecourses, including Newmarket. Probably the first will be ready for Hurst Park in August. The Graham Amplion company states that its tender amounted to £IOO,OOO for a machine worked entirely by electricity. , The board’s decision indicates tna« it considers the totalisator named superior for English purposes to the typo used on Australian racecourses, which were also submitted for considerdtltn’is stated that orders for large sums have been placed with all the firms mentioned, though the figures are not announced. official of the Graham Amplion company says the totalisator type accepted is not yet in existence. The tender was accepted upon plans and specifications. He claimed that electrical operation made it more simple and more reliable than the Australian tvpes. It would issue a printed ticket, containing the date the amount of the bet, the horse’s number and the race number, on the mere pressing of a button. He claimed it was entirely fool-proof and could be operated by a email staff of mechanics and cleik..
