MOVEMENT TO FOSTER FOXTON HARBOUR TRADE

MAYOR WAITS ON BOARD. Mr. M. E. Pcrrcau, Mayor of Foxton, waited on the Foxton Harbour board at its monthly- meeting yesterday with a request that it retain the services of the pilot, Captain J. Larsen. Mr Perreau stated a strong committee, was working with a good deal of succevss to foster shipping to. tho port and to dispense with the pilot’s services at the present juncture, would greatly jeopardise the work in hand. After a lengthy discussion in committee, the board on the motion of Mr E. R. B. Holbeu decided to employ Captain Larsen until the end of April. Before Mr Perreau withdrew the board on the motion of Mr. J. Crystall, voted its thanks to t.hc citizens’ committee comprising Messrs J. Linklater M.P-, M. E. Perreau and R, R-angiheuea for the good work it was doing to arrange shipping to tho port.

MONTHLY MEETING-. Air. J. Linklater, ALP. presided at. the monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour board held in Palmerston North yesterday. There were als« present Messrs ,T. A. Nash, ALP., J. Crystal!, E. E. B. Holbcn, H. Berry A. J. Kcllow and W. E. Barber. The board passed a vote of thanks to the Ala.ranui Life Saving club for the demonstration given at tho beach. Alombcrs were of the opinion that as a result of ’the exhibition a life saving club would be formed at the beach. A .request by Air S. XV. Well’s that he bo permitted to draw the insurance money on his residence which w-as destroyed by lire, t.hc building being on a Harbour board lease, was granted, subject to tile applicant leaving £6O with the board as a surety oil his covenant to rebuild. The opinion of the solicitor to the Harbour association is to be sought as to the interpretation of those sections in the Foxton Harbour Board Amendment Act, giving the board power to make and levy a differential special rate over the Foxton Harbour district.
