Por Press Association. THAMES, Last Night. Tho discovery has been made by Mr P. Everett, orchard instructor for the Thames-Bay of Plenty district, that loquat trees are a host for the firfr l blight. He has noticed for some time dead twigs on loquat trees and has suspected that they are caused by fireblight. Specimens were sent to. tho Government mycologist at Palmerston North and tho report confirms his suspicions. It has been semi-definitely proved that the pest is fireblight. This is the first indication that the Yew Zealand disease attacks loqiiats, of which there are a large number in the Auckland province.
