ELECTRIC FLOOD RECORDER NEWS
ADVICE PROM TELEPHONE EXCHANGE. The electric flood recorder recently installed at the river by the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board, is now in operation. Soon yesterday, Mr D. T. Allen, District Telegraphic Engineer, stated that tho recording'dial is now set up in tho Palmerston North telephone exchange and that anyone desiring information as to the river level had only to ring SSGO and the news will be supplied at auy time, day or night. Mr Allen further .stated that his department had approved of a-system for advising the exchange at Shannon, Rangiotu and Foxton of any rise in the water level above six feet at the Fitzhcrbert avcirue bridge. Foot rises will bo notified between seven and ten feet, from ten to 14 feet, six inch rises and after that every three inch rise will be advised to the post offices mentioned. For the benefit of its subscribers- in the areas liable to flood the “Times” will publish daily, detailed figures showing the water levels up to tho time of going to press early in the morning.
