BRIGHT COLOURS ON RAILWAY ENGINES ARE POPULAR IN CANADA
Briglitly-colourcd automobiles have been developed recently in the United States, but it retrained for Canada to set the fashion of bright colours on railway locomotives. Emerald green, llamo red and black arc the colours adopted for 2(3 of the largest locomotives of the Canadian National It ail ways passenger lines. The first to be repainted, No. GI3S, steamed out of the shops at Montreal recently and started on its run to Chicago via Toronto and London. The green is the predominating colour, being applied to the tender and boiler tank as stall as to the wheels. The cab is black and so arc the smoke box, coal hopper and feed water heater. The buffer beams in front and rear of the locomotive nro painted a brilliant flame red, and this colour is also used for the spokes of the wheels and the fluting of the drive rods. The public has displayed great interest in the coloured locomotives, and it is predicted that the Canadian Pacific Railway will follow suit, selecting distinctive colours for the engines of its lines as the various railway companies do in England.
