RUGBY REPORTS
MANAWHENUA AND MANAWATU DISTRICTS. In the course of his annual report to bo presented at the annual meeting of the Manawatu-Horowhenua Rugby Union, the president, .Mr W. 0. Hannan states inter alia:— • * The executive wishes to congratulate Messrs. D. Tatana and W. Parata or. being chosen to play for the New Zealand Native team against the New South Wales team, and they also wish to place on record their deep regret at the loss of Mr Jacobs’ services to Rugby, caused by the severe injury received at the close of the previous season. It is our confident opinion that had. Mr Jacobs been playing in representative matches, the results would have been more favourable to this Union. “Tlio executive desires to place on record its appreciation, of the services rendered by the gentlemen of tho medical profession, and it likewise wishes to convey its thanks to tho gentlemen who assisted with first aid work. Thanks are duo to Messrs Ryan and Winiata for the attention given to tho representative team, and we also have to extend thanks to Messrs. Crawford, Hands, Ryder, Eglinton and Clevoley for their services as managers of the various representative teams.”

During tho season referees were appointed to an average of 20 games per week, and no games were held up owing to the e.bsenco of tho referee. Tho smooth working of the association is largely due to the good work done by its executive and tho harmonious relations existing between the association and this council. “The executive desires to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered by the gentlemen of the medical profession, and it likewise wishes to convey its grateful thanks to Mr Andrews and the members of the Railway ambulance for the excellent first aid work done.
