THE STORY OF CALVARY

EASTEK MUSIC AT ST. PAUL’S. On Sunday evening next the St. Paul’s Methodist Choir will introduce a new Easter work to Palmerston North worshippers and music lovers. The work is entitled “The Story of Calvary,” and the words have been select# ed and written by Kose D. Betjemann. The music is by Thomas Adams. In this work an attempt has been made to strike a new note and not to follow in the beaten track of other works. While dwelling with deepest reverence on the sufferings of the Saviour, this work emphasises the fact that the moment of His deepest anguish was in reality the moment of His greatest triumph, the triumph over the human side of His nature. After the opening recitative and chorus wo are taken to the Last Suppor; then to the Betrayal. Following is a solemn march, “Via Crucis” for the organ. Then come the final scenes of the Crucifixion. The solo work on Sunday night will be in the hands of Mr W. Leet (tenor) and Mr Alan McLeavcy (Bass). Tho choir will be largely augmented and under the baton of Mr A. Txegurtha can bo relied upon to give a good interpretation of the work. Miss M. Bennett will preside at the organ. Prior to the Cantata, Eov. J. Ernest Parsons will conduct a short service, commencing at seven o’clock. *
