RUGBY COMPETITION IN THE MANAWATU
LAST YEAR’S SUCCESSES. Tlio annual report of the Manawatu Rugby District council makes tlie following reference to the various competitions conducted during last season: “The competitions in the senior, junior, third and fourth grade series were very close and interesting, the results being in doubt until the last rounds were played. I inancially the season was successful, the gate takings for the various games being in excess oi previous years. a “Kia Toa, with a total of G 7 points succeeded in winning the club championship, being closely followed by Old Boys with 63 points and Fcilding with 58 points. “In addition to the championship games the usual sudden death competitions were played the results of tlm contests being as follow:—Senior, Goldfinch and Cousins’ cup, won by Feilding; junior, Rogers’ cup, won by Old Boys; thirds, Anderson cup, won by St. Patrick’s. The Rowland cup was competed for between the junior champions of Manawatu (Kia Toa) and of Horo* whenua (Hui Mai) and resulted in a win for Hui Mai by 6 points to 3. The seven-aside tournament was held on June 3, and was a financial And spectacular success. The results of the various competitions were as follow: .Seniors, Thompson Payno cup, won by Oriental (Wellington); juniors, Rogers cup, won by St. Patrick’s; thirds. Dr. Hunter Will cup, won by Old Boys; schools, Boon cup, won by Rongotca.
