From Our Own Correspondent* Mr. T. James, who was taken ill last week, was removed to the Palmerston Forth public hospital. Mesdames Eaton and T. King, who are also inmates, arc I reported to be making satisfactory progress. ' On Sunday next harvest thanksgiving services will be held both morning and evening at tho Presbyterian ' Church. Contributions of flowers, fruit and vegetables will be thankfully received at the ckurek on Saturday after- . noon. The sale of produce will be • held on Monday evening at 7.30 p.rn., , and Mull be followed by a social to M'hich all are cordially invited. Mr. N. M. Porter was the recipient ’ of a leather collar box at the Anglican .Sunday School picnic last Saturday.' Mr. Porter, prior to his departure to 1 Wellington last month, had been leader of the Sunday School at Mangaorc. The presentation was made by the Rev. J. A. Farncll, on behaf of the scholars and teachers. Mr. B. J. Brann is spending a few days with friends in Masterton. Mr. W. Butler is visiting friends in Bulls. Sports. The balance-sheet of the recent sports fixture showed a slight loss, but considering the very unsettled state of the weather in tho morning, the Club consider themselves fortunate in not hav ing a big deficit. A committee consisting of the president, secretary, treasurer of the Shannon Athletic Club and Messrs. Curran and Christian has been set up to consider M-ays and means and the best method of tar-sealing the cycle track in twelve month’s time. A letter has been forwarded from the Shannon Athletic Club to Mr. G. Watson, of Levin, the Club’s handicapper and starter, conveying the Club’s appreciation of his services and congratulating him on his splendid handicapping.

St. Patrick’s Ball. The annual St. Patrick’s ball, which is one of the most popular functions of its kind held in the district was held in the Druid’s hall on Monday evening. The interior of the hall and supper rooms were decorated with yellow, black and green streamers, greenery and hydrangeas. The floor was in perfect order and together with tho fine music supplied by. an orchestra of five players from Levin added much towards the success of the evening. Mr. J.' T. Bovis acted as M.C. in his usual humorous, manner. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of a committee of ladies, and there was ample evidence of appreciation of their work. Extras were played by Mrs. Parcell and Messrs. W. Nicholls and J. Prentice.

Butler, sky blue crepc-de-ehinc and tulle; Miss W. Spencer, black georgetto and diamante trimming; Miss D. Spencer, taffeta and silk lace; Miss D. Jones, grey marocain and scarlet sash for hem; Miss M. Jamieson, pink taffeta; Miss N. Cole, powder blue beaded georgette; Miss V. Quarric, green velvet; Miss E. Quarrie, black velvet; Miss Stern, strawberry embroidered.georgette; Miss Camp, coral pink and silk lace; Miss G, Brown, white crepc-dc-chine, green trimmings and fur hem; Miss S. Roach, palest pink georgette with tiny frilled godets; Miss Gagliardi, electric blue crepe-de-chine; Miss Thurston (Wellington), powder blue georgette and cerise; Miss V. Jones (Levin), jade green georgette; Miss Edlin (Levin), pink taffeta, 'coloured bands on skirt; Miss Sinclair (Wellington), pale pink crepe-de-chine, pink rosebud trimming; Miss G. Eorbes, powder blue orepc-de-chino and silver lace; Miss D. Hook, rose pink georgette; Miss E. Jamieson, maroon silk and lace; Miss A. Brown (Makcrua), black satin and pink flowers.
