ANKLICAN SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC. From Our Own Correspondent. , The Anglican Sunday school picnic was held at the Oroua River at Kopane bridge on Saturday, when the weather was lovely and the picnic was a great success. The river was a great attraction to the children, whilst races, lolly scrambles, fruit and nuts added to the pleasure of the function. The Rev. W. Kelly ,at lunch time, heartily thanked the ladies and men who had assisted to make the picnic pleasurable for the chuldren whom he felt sure had thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The’ officials at the picnic were Mesdames Bower, Kelly, Wright, Amey, Claasen, Mossop, Gloyn, Amies, Hughes, Bottcher, and Misses J. Bower, and H. Wright; Messrs. A memorial service in memory of Rev. W. S. Tremain, late Viear of Rongotea, who lost his life in a train accident over a year ago, was held oh Thursday evening. The font, which was dedicated to the late vicar's memory, was given by the Ladies ’ guild, and was a beautiful piece of sculpture. The Rev. J. Walton, of Foxton, conducted the service and was assisted by the Rev. P. Whitehard, curate of All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North. The service and sermon were appropriate to the occasion, and the attendance to the service was good. The Vicar, the Rev. W. Kelly, has been confined to his bed during the last few days, but was present at the memorial service. Wholehearted support and attendance to church by each

individual parishioner would be more than pleasing to the Vicar and would also ensuro the smooth running of the church and matters pertaining thereto. At times the Vicar has been so ill that it has been a great effort for him to appear in the church and sympathetic support and kindly thought would be appreciated beyond expression. Farewell Party. A very pleasing little function took place at the residence of Mr J. R. McCall, Rongotea, on Friday evening when the many friends of his daughter, Miss V. McCall ,wko is leaving the district, gathered to bid her farewell. Mr L. Patton, on behalf of those present, presented Miss McCall with an xylonite trinket box, and said he was sure they were very sorry to lose her. Mr C. McCall, on behalf of his sister, suitably responded. Dancing, musical games, and musical items were indulged in. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance and the lucky spot dance were respectively Miss Porter and Mr D. Thompson and Miss M. Bower and Mr T. Patton. A very dainty supper was served and the party was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
