WET WEATHER WARNINGS
TORN MACKINTOSHES. If you tear your mack getting on the bus, don’t think that its day’s work is over. Get a little piece of silk the same colour as the mack and a tube of india-rubber cement. Put the edges of the teaT together, and spread the cement on the undorsido and a little on the piece of silk that is to be used as a patch. Place the patch on tho tear, having made sure that it is a little longer than the split. Place a heavy weight upon it, and leave for as long as possible. When finished the damage will hardly be noticed; even on tho inside tho patch will bo almost invisible. Wet-Weather Shoes. If you prefer wet-weather shoes to Russian boots, get a pair of rubber soles fixed to their soles, or fix them yourself—you can buy them at any fid. stores. Then melt a little beeswax and mutton suet until liquid, and Tub in tho solution well between the soles and the uppers. Tho shoes will then be perfectly watterproof, and will keep tho feet dry under any conditions. That Spoilt Hat Ribbon. If you get caught in the rain without your gamp, don’t think you will have to remove the ribbon from your hat to iron it, and put it back again. You have only to heat a spoon, holding the handle with a cloth (in case of burns), insert it in the loop of the ribbon. and turn it slowly round until all tho creases disappear, to' bring back the ribbon’s first freshness. Wet Fur. If your fur coat, collar, or tie gets wet, shake it as dry as possible, but don’t, on any account, rub it. Hang it up, and when quite dry, comb it all over with a steel comb. The comb can be bought from any furrier or dogs’ outfitter. To Mend That Hole. If you find a little hole in your otherwise good gamp, tint a piece of adhesive tape or stickiDg-plaster to match the cover, and press it over the hole from the inside, where it will stay for months.
