WASHOUTS AND SLIPS ON WEST COAST LINE
TWO DAYS’ HEAVY RAIN. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, Last Night. Washaways and slips occurred in various parts of the Buller district as the result of heavy rain yesterday and to-day. The bridge at Island creek loop line is in danger of being carried away. Blasting operations were reported to remove the logs which are threatening the bridge. A big washout occurred on the railway line near Birchfield, compelling the temporary suspension of the railway services.
