ERROR OF JUDGMENT BY KANOWNA’S MASTER

Received Wednesday, 10.20 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 6. The Marine Court to-day found that Captain Newberry, master of Kanowna, had committed an error in judg ment and was responsible for the loss of Kanowna. He had not allowed a sufficient margin of safety and should have Blowed down because of the weather conditions prevailing. The Court commended Capt. Newbery for his skilful control aira arrangement for the trans-shipment of passengers and also found that the lifeboats were in good condition at the date of the wreck.
