Weather conditions were sullen and the heat oppressive for the first day of the Rangitikei Racing Club’s annual meeting at Bulls yesterday. There was a large crowd present and the track, after the rain, was in first-class order. The favourite for the Rangitikei Cup, Star Area, was beaten by Mr. T. A. Duncan’s Cashier, while the Fcilding owned horse, The Raider, won the Scott Memorial event. The totalisator handled £13.521 lor the dav. as against £13,849 for the first day last year, a drop of £328.
