WOODVILLE WELCOMES MINISTER AND MEMBER

CERTAIN REQUESTS Per Press Association. WOODVILLE, Last Night. Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, was accorded a civic reception on Saturday afternoon by ft representative gathering of citizens. The Mayor, Mr. H. P. Horne, extended a welcome on the first visit of the member since his elevation to Cabinet and paid tribute to his services as a private member and Minister. Mr. B. H. Norman spoke on behalf of the county. Lator, the Minister received two deputations. The Chamber of Commerce requesting improved facilities at the entrance to the station relief from the shunting nuisance at the McLean street crossing, the erection of a slot telephone in the town, and the sub-division of estates adjacent to the town. The Rabbit Trust Association asked consideration for an amendment of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, pointing out anomalies in the present rating system. Mr. Ransom promised to bring these matters Before the respective Ministers. In expressing thank%for the congratulations, Mr. Ransom referred to the change of govenment and said New Zealanders were a sporting people, and . as such, were generally prepared to give tho Government a fair chance.
