The weather was fine and warm for the Flcniington races and there was a satisfactory attendance. The GovernorGeneral was present and a number of New Zealanders. The going was good. Cobranveil and Announcer had a.n exciting struggle over the last two furlongs of tho Hurdle race, Cobranveil winning narrowly. T. Butler, the rider, gained his third success in this race. The time was a course record. Strephon scored a comfortable victory in the St. Leger, after being among the leaders throughout. His record is five wins and a second in the last seven starts. Soldiers’ Love, daughter of Martian, is the dam of Strephon, who is engaged in the Sydnev cup. Black Duchess led all the way in the Essendon stakes and won nicely, giving her rider, J. O’Brien, his nineteenth win this season. The time was a race record. In the Brunswick Stakes, Bed Sea, after lying fourth in the early stages, came through ou the rails at the straight and beat the fast. finishing Horoscope. Red which is trained by E. O’Dwyer, was ridden by W. Scanlon. St. Ardent.was at the front throughout in the Newmarket handicap, going all the way on tho outside rail. Figure had every chance. Violian finished well. Mollison struck trouble and might possibly bave run second but had no chance with the winner, whose trainer, H. Gabell, won the Oakleigh
