REPATRIATING BRITISH COINAGE FROM IRELAND

COMPROMISE REACHED. LONDON, Feb. 27. In the House of Commons, Mr. Churchill revealed that the Free State, in the first place demanded that Britain should take over the face value of British silver coinage, estimated at £1,500,000 to £3,000,000. Ho naturally demurred, owing to tho cost of the British taxpayer. . The Free State pointed out that Britain had assisted South Africa and Australia by repatriating coinage at its face value and after negotiations, a compromise was reached, under which Britain should accept silver coin from Ireland to tho extent of £750,000, spread over ten years. This is estimated to cost the exchequer half a million sterling.
