RIVAL EAST COAST RAILWAY ROUTES

MINISTER TO INSPECT. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, Last Night. The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways) arrived in Gisborne tonight from Opotiki and was accorded a civic reception at a very largely-at-tended and representative meeting. Later, two deputations waited on tho Minister, urging the immediate _ continuation of the East Coast railway from Wairoa to Gisborne. The Minister, in reply, said he intended to examine the two rival routes and the Government's decision would be announced in due course. The Minister leaves to-morrow morning to make a personal inspection of the inland route and will examine the coastal route on Saturday, proceeding ghat evening to Nags* ■ -V-
