HOKITIKA WITNESSES FIREMEN IN ACTION
JUBILEE DEMONSTRATION. MODERN EVENTS PROVE ATTEACTTm Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, Last Night. The United Fire Brigades association jubilee demonstration commenced this morning under perfect weather conditions. .There was a .good attendance present. The water supply from borough mains gave a splendid pressure. It was officially stated that tho ground appointments were the best the association had ever had. The modern events proved an unqualified suecess and would surely be retained. Two events were completed and twe others partly run off and will bo continued to-morrow.
Gflberd Memorial, one-man coupling. —Final: Masterton 55secs (6 shield points) 1, Hawera 56 2-ssees (5 points} 2, Hillside Railway 01secs (4 points) 3, Onehunga 63 l-ssecs (2 points), Rotorua 64secs (1 point). Fifty-one competed. Two-men hose and standpipe eventt Petone 37 2-ssccs (9 shield points) 1, Lower Hutt 38 2-ssecs (8 points) 2, Taumarunui 38 3-ssecs (6 points) and Otirn Railway (4 points) equal 3, Hawera 38 4-ssecs (3 points), Waitara 38 4-ssecs (2 points). Sixty team* competed. Five men hose, reel and ladder event (modern): Hawera 41 l-ssees (20 shield points) 1, Addington Railway (16 points) and To Kuiti (12 points) each 45 secs tied for second place, Whangarei 49sccs (8 points), Gore 51 secs (6 points), Devonport and Dargaville 53 l-ssccs (each 2 points). Twentytwo teams competed. The four men hose and stsndpipo event was commonced, 16 of tho 4S entries having been run. Hawera .i* leading with 43 2-ssecs with Master & ton next with 46 4-ssccs.
