SWIMMING

Primary Schools Hold Annual Championships CAMPBELL (CENTRAL) IS BOYS’ CHAMPION PATTY SPORLE (FEILDING) EASILY WINS GIRLS’. Warm summer sunshine and a cloudless sky smiled upon the Manawatu primary schools’ swimming championships which wore held on Saturday afternoon in the baths of the Terrace End school. Favoured by such pleasant conditions, the success of the carnival was assured, for entries were exceptionally heavy and the organisation in capable hands. Tho only disappointing feature of an otherwise most successful afternoon was the lack of support on the part of the general public. The racing was most interesting and deserved a much larger audience than it received. There was, however, no lack of numbers or enthusiasm ou tho part of the. youthful barrackers, who let no competitor want for encouragment. The events were, in tho majority of cases, closely contested while particularly in the. girls section, some very fast times were recorded. The girl’ championship was won by Patty Spoilo, of Foilding Convent School, who secured 20 points, while the runner-up was D. Munn, of College Street with 8 points. Patty "‘•Sporle put up a particularly fine performance which is referred to elsewhere in the Fc-ilding section. The boys’ championship was more eioselv contested and was won by C.
