CLOGGED PETROL CAP

A few days ago a motorist was reminded that a clogged hole in the cap on tho pertol tank will interfere with the flow of petrol sufficiently to stop tie oar. It took him tie best part of half an hour to discover that the air hol6 was blocked with mud from tie road. It took him only half a minute to remove the obstruction with a pin, and all was well again. Petrol can onlv get out of the tank if air can get in to take its place. It is popularly thought, by the w-ay, that petrol is sucked into the vacuum tank from the lower level rear tank by the suction of the engine. This is not so. Petrol is forced into the vacuum tank by the pressure of air on the surface of the petrol in the rear tank. The question is simply one of relative pressures.
