AUSTRALIA TO EQUIP POLAR EXPEDITION

NEW ZEALAND TO BE ASKED TO JOIN.
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, 8.15 p.m. CANBERRA, Feb. 21. It has been announced that tho Commonwealth government has decided to organise and equip an expedition to the Antarctic, led by Sir Douglas Mawson. The expedition will he leaving at the end of this year. Mr Bruce stated that the Now Zealand government had been invited to co-operate in the expedition and he earnestly hoped it would do so, by providing repre sentatives in the scientific personnel. The expedition would cost £16,000. The New Zealand government had offered to contribute £2,500.
