ICE BOMBED AND SHELLED VAINLY

ON GERMAN DANUBE. GROUND TOO HARD FOR GRAVE-DIGGING.

United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Thursday, 10 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 20. The Times Munich correspondent states that aeroplanes bombed the ice on the German Danube between Nassau and Regensburg. Artillery shelled it with howitzers and firemen poured ignited kerosene on it. hut all in vain. The authorities, who are anxious to liberate shipping and prevent floods, decided to call up ice-break-ers. Such vessels have not before been used in South Germany. The ground is so hard at Stuttgart that grave-diggiug is impossible and the cemetery authorities have requested relatives to adopt cremation.
