Problem of Settlement
CONFERENCE TO BE HEED
The Minister of Lands, Hon. G. W. Forbes, announced on Tuesday that a conference of commissioners of Crown lands and members of the Land Purchase Board would be'held in Wellington on January 23 to discuss with him the most effective means of bringing about, the settlement of available lands in the hands of the Crown. The question of abandoned farms and the 'possibility of developing the pumice lands and the "undeveloped areas in the various parts of the Dominion would be discussed by the conference. Mr Forbes intends during the next few months to make a personal inspection of the undeveloped lands of the Dominion, and on Thursday evening he will leave Wellington for the Waitomo electorate, where he will spend two days.. He will pay a special visit to the Ngaroma settlement, which has been the centre of considerable discussion in Parliament during recent years. Mr Forbes will reach Hamilton on Saturday evening, and will proceed tho following day to Auckland where he will spend two days in the transaction of departmental business. He will return to Wellington on Wednesday morning.
While he is away Mr Forbes will also visit the Buakura State farm Ho will be accompanied by the Undcr-Sec-retary for Crown Lands, Mr J. B. Thompson. '■ \
