FIRE BRIGADE CALLED TO FEATHERSTON STREET

A QUICK SAVE. At 10.10 yesterday morning, the Eire Brigade received a call to a six-roomed house in Featherston street east oceu, picd by Mrs. R. Henneke. A fire, which apparently had arisen through a gas leak catching alight, had obtained a hold on the roof at the rear of the premises. The brigade succeeded in localising the outbreak and eventually subdued it before any serious damage had been done. Both the house and furniture are covered by insurance. On being seen after the outbreak, the Fire Brigade superintendent, Mr. W. Barnard," stated that in the case of fire 3 during the day or early morning, the general public could assist the brigade materially by restricting the use of water so as to leave as high a pressure ns possible available for fire-fighting.
