A strange concatenation of events resulted in 14 being killed and 40 seriously injured in a railway accident. An express from Craiova (154 miles west of Bucharest) broke an axle and a message was sent to Balata for a relief train. The relief train was hurrying to the scene of the mishap, and collided with another relief train, which had been sent from Turnuseverin with disastrous consequences It is alleged' that tho accident was due to the driver being under the iniuenee of drink and not seeing tho other train. The wrecked coaches caught fire. It was an hour and a half before doctors were available.
