NEW MARVELS OF REFRIGERATION OBTAINED WITH LIQUID AIR—RUBBER MADE BRITTLE. NEW YORK, Ice cream was made on the stage of the New York Electrical Society Auditorium and members of the society in the audience were pelted with hailstones made by drawing water into liquid air during a demonstration of new discoveries in refrigeration just given there. It was in connection with an address by Stephen Bennis, power engineer of tho United Electric Light and Power Company, who exhibited working models of new electric and gas household refrigerators. At the close of Mr Bennis's address, Dt. E. E. Free, of New York University, showed the spectacular effects which may be produced by the super cooling of liquid air. Even as a magician, Dr. Free showed how various metals may be frozen, “while you wait,” flowers in his hand becoming as crystal and rubber brittle. He froze a fish into a rigid mass and then broke it in two.

Mr Bennis declared that, contrary to the general impression, foods properly stored and refrigerated are in no way inferior to those which are fresh.
